VIDEO VISITS

The Programme

The Video Visit programme is quite innovative and unique to Tasmania.   The programme is based on the concept of working with churches or key organisations to establish a ‘Regional Visits Centre’.  This is a key component of our programme as the centre act not only as a base for Video Visits but also provide support for families of prisoners and potentially support to the prisoners after his/her release from prison.

Visit Booking Arrangements

All visit requests are made by ringing the Risdon Prison Visit Centre. Visitors will advise that they would like to conduct the visit via video and notify which ‘Regional Visit Centre’ they will attend for the visit. Video Visits are currently limited to Thursdays and can only be conducted during the approved visits times.

Bookings for Video Visits must be made before 12pm each Tuesday.  Only approved visitors will be eligible for a Video Visit.

Churches act as an official visit centre and as such they identify the people visiting and ensure ONLY those approved by Risdon Prison, and listed on the visit booking sheet, actually participate in the visit.

Visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the visit.  Visitors are not permitted to take mobile phones into the visit.

To book visits you can ring the Risdon Prison Visitor Reception Centre on (03) 6165 7400

Special Visits

Incarceration can separate offenders from their families in some of life's most stressful moments and often adds to pressures faced by families.

Special Video Visits can be arranged in compassionate circumstances such as the terminal illness or death of a family member, extreme family hardship circumstances and special events involving children of offenders.

These visits are facilitated by Prison Based Family Engagement Workers who work closely with TPS staff.
