Hillside Haven is a small house located on the grounds of the Christian Family Centre, which neighbours the Prison at Risdon Vale. The house was built with funds made available through Tasmanian Community Fund and is available to families of prisoners, living considerable distance from Hobart, to visit their family member in Risdon Prison. 

 

Families will normally only be able to book one night in the house except where there are exceptional circumstances (for example family members flying in from interstate)

 

How much does it cost? 

A small fee of $30.00 per night is required to cover the expenses of cleaning and use of utilities.

What do I need to bring? 

Hillside Haven is a one bedroom furnished house (which sleeps up to 5 people, [1 double bed with single bed overhead plus a pull out divan]. Sheets, blankets and pillows are provided for the beds. Families are advised to bring their own towels and bedding material for the pull out divan. (i.e. sleeping bag/doonas, pillowcases, sheets for the divan). 

 

What is provided? 

Limited appliances and cooking equipment (stove, oven, microwave, grill, kettle, toaster, pots, fry pan, crockery, utensils, cups and mugs). Families are invited to cook if they wish. (There is a small Supermarket in Risdon Vale and larger Woollies located in Lindisfarne). There are a number of eating places in Lindisfarne and Rosny (a list is provided in an information folder located in the Unit). The house is well equipped for winter and the heat pump will quickly warm the whole house.

Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs and Pets

The inside of the Hillside Haven is NON-SMOKING – please be respectful of other families, and help us keep the house in good order. Smoking is permitted on the veranda where an outdoor table and chair and ash tray have been provided. 

 

Alcohol, Drugs and Pets are not allowed in the house or on the church property. Breach of these conditions will disqualify people from further use of the house.
